Dr. Carlos Campo
Carlos Campo, Ph.D., became the eighth president of Regent University on August 1, 2010.
Since joining the university as vice president of academic affairs in 2008, Campo has led a Regent team through its most recent successful accreditation process, leading to full accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Working with Regent's Board of Trustees, Campo helped form a “Spiritual Vitality Committee,” which initiates and enhances spiritual activities on campus to sustain the University’s Christ-centered mission. He also sparked an initiative to measure and improve each student’s spiritual health while at Regent.
Campo was also instrumental in the the launch “RU Global” and Regent University’s “Quality Enhancement Plan,” which focus on defining and enhancing Christian global competence in students and faculty.
A much sought-after speaker, Campo delivered a keynote address at the third annual “Encuentro,” held at Virginia State University in March 2010. In May 2010, he delivered the commencement address at the International University in Vienna.
Campo is a four-time recipient of one of academia’s most coveted recognitions, “Who’s Who Among American Teachers,” an accolade that is student-generated, recognizing a professor who has had a significant impact on the nominating student’s life.
Campo serves on the boards of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network and the Urban League of Hampton Roads. He is also a member of the National Council of Workforce Education, the National Council on Foreign Relations, the Council on Race and Ethnic Equality, the American Center for Law and Justice, the American Literature Association, the International Shakespeare Association and the Arthur Miller Society.
Among Campo’s numerous community service activities are volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, in a prison ministry and as a youth leader.
He holds a PhD in English (Drama Emphasis), a Master of Arts (English) and a Bachelor of Arts (Theater) from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Dr. Campo and his wife, Karen, reside in Chesapeake, Virginia and have three adult children.
