It is especially through Black Economic Empowerment that this may be seen through Socio-Economic Development, one of the seven components of a Broad-based BEE Scorecard.

Through this component companies are encouraged to contribute any amount of their Socio-Economic Development (SED) budget to projects or initiatives that adhere to the requirements of the BEE Codes of Good Practice and allow the donating or sponsoring company to claim their points for 1% contribution of net after tax profit, under the particular Code.  It is especially interesting to note that with Qualifying Small Enterprises (QSE’s) this may even amount to gaining 25 points out of a possible 100 and therefore may assist the sponsoring company in its tendering processes and client-relations by not only building its own BEE-score, but adding value to clients through the procurement component.

The requirements of the BEE Codes are thus important to take into account as the definitive criteria to follow ensure that such donations are recognized as proper, under the act, to result in the scoring of maximum points.

The above donation is also supported through a proper structure with regards to taxation. Should any company make a contribution to the different projects in Bambanani, the particular company may deduct the amount that has been donated against its own taxable income. In other words in more ways than one the donation will add value to the donating company.
